Chapter 3
Demon Hunter versus Blaze
Demon Hunter gripped his sword as the blade shone brightly, mirroring the light emitting from the fire wrapped around Blaze’s swords. Blaze jumped backwards and as he did he slashed his sword through the air horizontally, causing the fire to shoot outwards in a line that followed the swords movements. Demon Hunter came skidding to a halt as the fire slammed in to the ground in front of him. Demon Hunter instantly jumped to the side as the fire scorched the earth besides him. The intense heat from the fire started to make a bead of sweat run down Demon Hunter’s forehead. “What’s wrong Mr Demon Hunter; it isn’t too hot for you is it?” Blaze gloated as a smile appeared across his face. Demon Hunter closed his eyes and let out a breath of air and took a large breath in and out again.
Demon Hunter let go of his sword with one hand and he brought his sword down to his side. He raised his hand in front of his face and opened up his fist. Small dots of light started to rise out of Demon Hunter’s hand and his arm seemed to become covered in a pale white light. The little dots rose up just above Demon Hunter’s hand and started to gather in to a ball of white light. Blaze just stood in awe of what was happening; “What is that?” He muttered to himself. Then all of a sudden the white light that was surrounding his arm, shot through his body and become engulfed in the ball. The ball seemed to float there radiating an intense white light which lit up the entire street. Demon Hunter looked straight forward at Blaze as he swung his sword straight down to his sides, the fire in front of Demon Hunter wrapped up in to a ball and went flying back towards Blaze but instead of wrapping it self around Blaze’s sword the ball of fire just hovered in front of him lighting his face with an orange glow.
“Well then Mr Demon Hunter, it appears we have a good old fashion stand off don’t we.” Blaze said as he prepared to fire his fireball against Demon Hunter. “I’m sorry, I am not holding back any longer” Demon Hunter stared at Blaze as he said those words with a look of remorse. “Draw!” Blaze replied as he stuck out his two swords in front of him, the fireball burst forward towards Demon Hunter. Demon Hunter grabbed his left arm with his right to steady himself as he aimed to ball in front of him. He slowly closed his eyes and started to say something. “Sun’s Sphere Blast Darkness Asunder, Radiant Blast” suddenly the ball unleashed a shockwave of light causing the ground beneath his feet to crack causing smoke and dust to fly up around Demon Hunter as the ball shot forward
The ball flew straight in to the ball of fire, making it seem as if the ball had been swallowed whole by the mass of fire. “Hmm got him” Blaze thought to himself, when suddenly the ball tore through the other end heading straight towards him. The fireball started to tear apart as it lost its integrity, disappearing in to smoke and tiny whispers of flames that seemed to dance in the air before dieing out completely. Blaze didn’t have much time to react as the ball of light headed for him; he quickly crossed his swords together in front of him and prepared for impact.
The ball crashed in to his swords, letting out another wave of light and energy which caused the ground around him to crack and tear apart beneath his feet. The bodies of the two soldiers were flung to either side of the street, were they smashed through the glass and disappeared in to the building. Blaze struggled desperately to keep his footing as the incredible force of the ball began to push him backwards. Blaze tried to push back against the ball with all the strength in his being but it didn’t seem to have any effect as he was pushed further and further backwards. “Darn it! How is he doing this? How is he beating me?!” Blaze shouted through gritted teeth as he continued to try and push against the ball in vain.
“I am sorry but this is the end” Demon Hunter said as the cloud of dust around him finally settled down, Blaze looked over the ball and could see the outline of Demon Hunter, standing there with his right hand outstretched in front of him. Demon Hunter quickly clasped his hand shut in to a clenched fist. The ball of light of instantly grew brighter and brighter until Blaze couldn’t look directly at it, the ball quickly started to pulsate and Blaze could feel the energy pushing against him with each pulse. Suddenly the ball expanded almost instantly, Blaze quickly lost his footing as he pushed with incredible force as the ball expanded in to a huge sphere which reached each side of the street. The ground below was torn asunder and evaporated in to nothingness; Blaze flew through the air before crashing in to a brick wall at the end of the street.
The wall collapsed causing several bricks and rubble to fall down on to him as he lay still against the wall. Blaze gripped hold of his swords before knocking the bricks off of him and standing up, he simply stood in awe as he looked down the street. The ground where he had been standing moments ago had completely disappeared and all that remained was a large crater in the ground. Small flakes of white light started to fall down from above the hole, making it look like it was snowing. “Just what the hell is he” Blaze said as he found that he couldn’t take his eyes off it. Then Blaze quickly came back to his senses as he saw Demon Hunter slowly walking out of the crater towards him with the speckles of light falling all around him.
Blaze stumbled forward as he quickly managed to steady himself; he raised one of his hands to his face and wiped away a trickle of blood from his mouth. “That move did a lot more damage then I thought” Blaze thought as he stared at the blood on his hand. “How long has it been since I felt this much pain, and this fear” Blaze said as he looked back up at Demon Hunter, who was just standing there. “I don’t think I can win this one by myself, but I at least have a few more tricks left up my sleeve” Blaze thought as he summoned another batch of fire to wrap around the naked blades of his swords. Blaze slowly started to walk forward and Demon Hunter did the same.
“I thought my attack would have done more than that, he is tougher then he looks” Demon Hunter thought to himself as the both of them stopped and faced each other down. “That was an impressive attack Mr Demon Hunter” Blaze started to say as he raised each sword to either side of him and stretched them out. “But this fight is not over quite yet” Blaze said as Demon Hunter gripped his sword with both hands. Blaze could feel his heart beating within him; he could hear the blood pumping in his head. His heart pumping faster and faster, he could feel his palms becoming clammy as he tried to grip tighter on to his swords. “I am going to have to go all out, all or nothing” Blaze kept repeating in his head, “Are you afraid?” Demon Hunter said, as the words pierced through Blaze as he stood there in disbelief. “Do you feel fear?” he said once again, Blaze stood there not moving with a puzzled expression on his face. “What is he doing?” Blaze thought to himself as Demon Hunter continued “Are you so afraid of death?” He asked once again, Blaze felt his arms strain as he slowly lowered his swords back down to his sides.
“Now you know how it felt for them” Demon Hunter said as he continued to stare, “Who?” Blaze said not sure what Demon Hunter meant. “All of the people that you have killed, do you realise what they felt just before you killed them?” Demon Hunter asked. “Don’t be stupid, a true demon doesn’t fear anything!” Blaze shouted in anger at Demon Hunter’s words. “The people I killed I did because they tried to escape their fates, nobody can escape the fates that they have been given” Blaze shouted as he held his sword out towards Demon Hunter. “Nobodies fate is prewritten and if it is I will tear it aside and let them create new ones” Demon Hunter said calmly. “Ha, are you a god now as well Mr Demon Hunter?” Blaze asked in a mocking tone. “No simply human, just like you” Demon Hunter said as he slashed at Blaze’s sword knocking it back to his side. “I am not human any longer!” Blaze shouted as he out stretched his arms again “Then why do you fear me” Demon Hunter said as his sword began to glow. “I fear no man!” Blaze shouted as he lunged forward swiping at him.
Demon Hunter easily parried each of the attacks before leaping backwards to gain some distance, Demon Hunter raised his sword and pointed it at Blaze, and motioned for Blaze to attack him. Blaze charged at him as he sliced upwards with his sword. His attack was instantly parried away by Demon Hunter’s sword, as Demon Hunter’s left hand came swinging round and hit Blaze squarely in the jaw. Blaze staggered backwards for several steps, Demon Hunter launched in to the air and dived down towards Blaze. Blaze held out his sword above his head as their swords meet together with a clang. “Not twice you don’t!” Blaze shouted as Demon Hunter’s body came swinging round to hit Blaze, but Blaze thrust his foot forward and managed to kick Demon Hunter in the middle of the stomach. Demon Hunter went flying backwards through the air until he went straight in to the floor and skidded along the floor until he finally came to a stop with his head dangling over the side of the pit.
He slowly started to get back, when Blaze noticed that Demon Hunter’s sword was glowing a bright white again. “This attack again” Blaze thought to himself as he prepared for the attack. Blaze quickly went on the offensive and ran towards him, Demon Hunter swiped through the air leaving a trail of energy in the air. “Sun’s ray, tear through the heavens above! Radiant Slash” Demon Hunter shouted as the attack shot forward with incredible speed. “Now!” Blaze shouted as he leapt up in to the air as the attack passed beneath him. Blaze seemed to glide through the air before he slashed to right of Demon Hunter as Demon Hunter barely had time to block the attack. Blaze kicked forward with his legs and hit Demon Hunter in the chest; Demon Hunter stumbled backwards before falling in to the crater behind him. He quickly rolled to the bottom where he turned on to his back to face Blaze. “Where did that come from?” Demon Hunter thought as he looked up at Blaze.
“This is it, my last gamble” Blaze thought as he thrust his swords together by the handles, the spike from one of the swords seemed to lock in place with the sound of a click as he twisted the handles in opposite directions. Demon Hunter quickly rose to his feet quickly and rubbed the dirt off his suit. Blaze’s blades curved in opposite direction as the fire started to grow bigger and more intense around the blades, Demon Hunter gritted his teeth seeing Blaze’s new weapon. He gripped tightly on his sword with both his hands as the sword started to glow white again. “This is the final bid” Demon Hunter thought to himself as he looked at Blaze. “I don’t think that bastard is going to be coming” Blaze thought to himself as he quickly looked around, “Nope it looks like Sarge has left me for dead, and I don’t think I will be able to run away again” Blaze whispered to himself before focusing his attention back on to Demon Hunter.
“What do you say we end this Mr Demon Hunter, this battle between you and me” Blaze said as Demon Hunter leapt up over him and landed behind. Demon Hunter landed crouched down, “Yes it is time” Demon Hunter said as he gradually got up and turned around. Blaze shot his double bladed weapon forward in front of him with his right hand holding it vertically. He slowly started to turn it round his wrist in a circular motion. As the weapon spun round in a circular motion through the air, cutting through the air it created a whistling sound which began to resonant through Blaze’s head as he spun the weapon faster and faster.
The flames started to flicker forward and gushes of air pushed past Demon Hunter as he stood their gripping his weapon transfixed on what Blaze was doing. The dust and rubble on the street started to roll down the street and through the air as Blaze continued to rotate his weapon at increasing speeds. After a few seconds Demon Hunter could start to feel the air pushing him backwards as his clothes waved in the torrents of air that kept pushing past. The flames started to get larger and larger as they flickered further out and went flying through the air with the wind. The flames grew larger as they spiralled through the air in a vortex. Demon Hunter looked down at his feet as they slowly started to move backwards across the ground as he looked up he could see the flames moving slowly down the street towards him. “Ha, Well Mr Demon Hunter are you ready? Because here it comes!” Blaze’s weapon then spun with incredible speeds causing the blades to look like a blur as he spun it around his wrist. The Flames shot forward toward Demon Hunter in a circular vortex of flames.
Demon Hunter jumped up in to the air over the flames narrowly missing Blaze’s attack, Blaze slowly raised his arm still rotating the weapon at incredible speeds. The vortex of flames slowly started to rise towards Demon Hunter, who was still rising up through the air from his jump. Demon Hunter quickly lunged for the building on his right as he thrust his sword in to the building and pulled him self out of the way of Blaze’s attack by a hair. Blaze quickly moved his arm this time at a far faster speed as the vortex went rocketing towards Demon Hunter. Demon Hunter placed both his feet on the wall of the building and started to sprint along the side of the building dragging his sword along in the wall to keep him self lodged on to the building.
As the vortex hit the building behind Demon Hunter the force of it tore through the wall, melting and burning the wall around it. The vortex followed Demon Hunter as Blaze tried his best to follow Demon Hunter. As Demon Hunter continued to run along the wall towards Blaze he could feel the intense heat of the vortex right behind him as several beads of sweat started to roll down his forehead. As he came closer to Blaze he pounced off the building and leapt straight over him. Blaze raised his hand in the air to follow Demon Hunter until he couldn’t lean backwards anymore.
Demon Hunter landed on the floor behind Blaze, and quickly turned to face him as Blaze grabbed the handle in his clenched fist above his head. The flames flicked through the air until they died out and disappeared in to black smoke which floated through the air. The flames around Blaze’s weapon still burned brightly with their intense heat, as Blaze started to breathe heavily gasping for air. “Well it seems you managed to beat that attack but that was only a sample of what’s to come” Blaze said as he panted heavily. Demon Hunter just stood there with a smile on his face as the ground beneath their feet began to rumble. Blaze spread out his feet to stabilise himself as he looked around to see what was going on. Blaze looked at Demon Hunter and saw that his facial expression hadn’t changed.
“What his he doing, what’s going on? What does he know that I don’t?” Blaze thought to him self as he started to panic as the rumbling beneath their feet became more intense. Suddenly Blaze turned around and saw the apartment building behind him was starting to collapse. His attack had torn through one side of the building making it sink in to the ground the top part started to break apart as it began towards Blaze and Demon Hunter casting his shadows over them both. As Blaze looked forward again he saw Demon Hunter leap out of the way. “Shit!” Blaze shouted as he quickly ran in the opposite direction before diving out of way as the building smashed in to the ground just behind him sending debris across both sides of the street and causing a cloud of dust to descend in the middle of the street blocking Blaze’s view.
Blaze started coughing as the dust started to spread out, “Damn it” Blaze thought to him self as after a minute the dust cloud started to finally disperse. Blaze searched through the rubble to see through to the other side of the street where he could finally see Demon Hunter standing there with his sword glowing. “Damn him, damn him, damn him, why can’t I damage him? Nothing that I do seems to make any difference to him what so ever! He is making me look like a fool!” Blaze shouted as he yelled in anger, he quickly leapt through the air and over the building towards Demon Hunter. He pulled the weapons handles in opposite directions causing them to tear apart forcing them in to two swords again.
He rolled in to a ball with his swords sticking out curved around his body and started to spin through the air. He rolled out of his ball just before he hit the floor, Blaze slammed in to the floor with his two swords held out in front of him as the flames around his sword shot forward and covered the street in fire. As Blaze looked forward and saw the street in flames, he looked around and he could see a glimmer of sun light peering through the thick smoke above. He started to smile until he heard footsteps behind him; he quickly stood up as the fire that engulfed the street shot backwards and swarmed around his sword again. As he turned a sword came swinging towards him, he managed to block it with his swords once again. Demon Hunter swiftly unleashed a fury of swords swipes each blow knocking Blaze’s backwards and off his feet. Demon Hunter gave one last slash at Blaze as he hovered off the ground before his feet hit the ground again.
Blaze managed to steady him self after taking a few more step backwards, Demon Hunter held his sword out in front of him as the light that engulfed his blade shot to the tip of the blade and shattered in to tiny little pieces of light that flickered in the wind and disappeared in moments. The light from the sun above was starting to pierce through the black smog that covered the city, beams of light hit the ground warming the once cold and icy ground below. “I saw it, you know? Your humanity, which is why I am sorry” Demon Hunter said smiling as a beam of light broke through the smog and shone down upon him warming his body. Blaze held his swords together in front of him creating a cross shape with the blades. The flames spun around each other and became entangled together. “You think this is over, I am not finished yet!” Blaze shouted as he started to prepare for whatever was coming next.
Demon Hunter just stood there as the flames around Blaze’s swords suddenly turned to smoke. Blaze stepped back and uncrossed his swords with a look of confusion “What the hell!” Blaze shouted as he tried to summon the fire again. Demon Hunter stuck out his palm as it began to glow white again, rapidly numerous numbers of whites lines appeared all over Blaze’s swords and one line across his chest. Demon Hunter clenched his hand in a fist “Devastating Radiant Fury!” He shouted as the light around his fist shattered.
Blaze’s weapons suddenly shattered in to a thousand pieces as Blaze fell backwards as the force of the attack pushed his him back, the white line across his chest tore through his skin, leaving a deep scar and causing blood to splatter in to the air. Blaze stumbled backwards dropping what remained of his swords; he gripped his chest with his right arm, as he fell to his knees in agony as the blood from his chest poured on to his arm and on to the floor below creating a pool of blood around him. Blaze let out a primal scream that resonated through the street. A small tear began to run down Blaze’s cheek and dropped in to the blood below with a small splash causing ripples. Blaze stumbled forward and picked up what was left of his swords by the handles and staggered towards Demon Hunter gaining momentum as he went. As he got close he threw the blades at Demon Hunter, with a couple of swipes of his sword Demon Hunter knocked the swords out of the air and they dropped to floor with a clatter behind him.
Demon Hunter ran forwards with his sword being run along the ground, Blaze ran forward with his fist clenched. His clothes were now coated in his own blood, the blood from his chest dripped down creating a trail on the ground behind him. Blaze leapt forward and thrust with his right arm, Demon Hunter slowly moved to the side as the fist grazed his cheek. Demon Hunter lowered down slightly and plunged the tip of his sword in to Blaze chest. The sword tore through it and erupted out of his back with a splatter of blood, Blaze fell to his knees and tears began to run down his face.
